broken soul blog tour

It’s time for a fangirl *squeee*! Faith Hunter’s next Jane Yellowrock novel Broken Soul is almost here, y’all! And I got to read it early, hurrah for blog tours! :)

About Broken Soul:

Jane Yellowrock is a vampire killer for hire — but other creatures of the night still need to watch their backs…

When the Master of the city of New Orleans asks Jane to improve security for a future visit from a delegation of European vampires, she names an exorbitant price — and Leo is willing to pay. That’s because the European vamps want Leo’s territory, and he knows that he needs Jane to prevent a total bloodbath. Leo, however, doesn’t mention how this new job will change Jane’s life or the danger it will bring her and her team.

Jane has more to worry about than some greedy vampires. There’s a vicious creature stalking the streets of New Orleans, and its agenda seems to be ripping Leo and her to pieces. Now Jane just has to figure out how to kill something she can’t even see…

drey’s thoughts:

Oh, Jane. So much happens in Broken Soul I’m not quite sure where to begin…

How about affairs of the heart? ;) Now, before y’all start protesting that you’re not into the lovey-dovey kissy-kissy stuff in half the paranormal reads out there, stop worrying! Jane is still the kick-ass vamp killer she’s always been – and she’s getting better. (Wait til you find out why!) But there’s always been that little hint of romance in the air, even if Ricky Bo’s pretty face hasn’t been quite worth the turmoil (in my opinion, at least!). And in Broken Soul us Bruiser fans FINALLY get some action to go with the teases that we’ve gotten in the last few books. (Huzzah!) And that’s all I’m going to say about it, because while it’s a BIG DEAL to Jane, it isn’t the only topic that occupies the pages of Broken Soul.

So let’s move on to the story, which starts with Jane and the Youngers prepping vamp HQ for a visit from the European Mithrans and moves quickly into fighting (or, learning to fight for official purposes), woo-woo creepy-crawly elevator malfunctions taking you to woo-woo creepy-crawly sub-basement levels of vamp HQ, more fighting (of the what-was-that, slash-and-smash kind), snipers, bomb parcels, and a trio known as Satan’s Three. And yet more fighting. Yes, there’s a lot of keep-Jane-on-her-toes in Broken Soul, which means tons of action interspersed with some down time for fun (see above paragraph) and reflection. In fact, there’s so much going on that you could be forgiven for losing sight of the plot – at least, until you get to the “A-ha!” revelations.

I love love love Jane and Beast, and am glad that they’re getting along more like partners now than they have in prior installments. I love that Jane is learning just that little bit more about her past and her history, and that she’s getting used to having friends. I did miss Molly and her crew, they’re mentioned in Broken Soul but not much more – but I guess they deserve a break after Black Arts! Not that Broken Soul is all Jane; we get plenty of Beast (and her cat-humor), Eli and the Kid, Derek and his crew (though more Derek than the crew, with their humorous nicknames), and we definitely get quite a bit of Soul. And a few revelations there, too.

In a nutshell, what’s not to love with Broken Soul? There’s action aplenty, plot advancement, character development, and even a lil’ romance. This one’s a winner in my book! :)

If you haven’t read Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock series yet (and it’s a definite yet if you enjoy urban fantasy with kick-ass heroines who don’t take prisoners and have to learn to play nice with others), start with Skinwalker. Then make your way through Blood Cross, Mercy Blade, Raven Cursed, Death’s Rival, Blood Trade, and Black Arts before getting to Broken Soul. Do it quickly, book number nine (Dark Heir) is slated for release next April.
