Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series is one of my favorites, how could I turn down a chance to read a collection of stories with the characters from the series? I couldn’t…

shifting shadowsdrey’s thoughts:

I don’t usually review anthologies or short stories, but couldn’t turn down a chance to get my hands on a copy of Shifting Shadows early (though this review is posting late – scheduling trouble).

I love love love Briggs’ Mercedes Thompson – she’s a totally kick-ass character who’s interesting in her own right, who’s been through the wringer and back, and who’ll do it all over again to protect the ones she loves, and the ones who can’t protect themselves.

And now I get to find out more about Bran, Samuel, Ben, and Ariana, and I even meet some new characters. The stories vary in intensity and history. Some are set so long ago it’s hard to imagine a time before. Some have magic, more have pride, and a few are cruel. But all are engrossing, and all made me wish for more than just the shorts.

If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll want to read Shifting Shadows. If you’re new to Mercy, Shifting Shadows may make you a fan of the series.

drey’s rating: Excellent!
